Alyssa Burley: You're listening to Rancho Mesa’s StudioOne™ podcast, where each week we break down complex insurance and safety topics to help your business thrive. I'm your host, Alyssa Burley, and today I'm joined by Dave Garcia, President of Rancho Mesa, and we're going to discuss his new podcast, Dave's Dugout. Dave, welcome to the show.
Dave Garcia: Don't you mean welcome to the dugout? Thanks, Alyssa. Thanks for having me here in Studio One and for today, welcome to Dave's Dugout.
AB: Now, we know how much baseball is part of Rancho Mesa. Our conference rooms are named the Clubhouse and the Dugout. And we also know baseball has been a big part of the entire Garcia family history. So Dave, tell our listeners what they can expect from this new podcast, Dave's Dugout.
AB: Okay, happy to do that. So let me just give everybody a little bit of background on my family's history with baseball.
So during most of my childhood, my dad was either managing in the minor leagues or in the major leagues. So for me, that meant he was gone a lot. For the most part, it was with my mom for most of the year and he was off managing, like I said, the minors in the major leagues. So to get to spend time with him each summer what school is out, I'd go and be with him wherever he was managing. So a good part of my childhood, I spent with him during those games in the dugout or bullpens of the teams he was managing.
So what this means is like from the time I was nine until about the time I went to high school, I spent all those summers in those dugouts and actually just learned so many life lessons from my dad and from other, you know, people on the team. And although my dad, he wasn't formally educated; my family's Spanish, my grandparents on both sides were immigrants. So he was educated only through high school, but he was just a natural leader of men and had probably the greatest common sense of anybody I've ever been around. So I got to watch, you know, from the dugout, from the bench, just how he managed through tough situations, both, you know, game situations, but a lot of life situations that he had to deal with, with players on the team and things they were going through. And I got to watch how he treated people from all walks of life.
My dad saw no racer color for sure. I got to see his critical thinking and his decision -making process, whether it was a game time decision or, again, something to do with somebody's personal life and his time management skills. And the lessons literally just go on and on. So that's kind of what I wanted to share with the audience is some of those experiences I had.
AB: Yeah, it sounds like your dad was an inspiring man that had a profound influence on you.
DG: He really did. So I really hope to share some of those things with the audience in hopes that, you know, they too might find some impactful, useful, or just interesting stories. Maybe somebody will find something that they can use or just think about in different situations or context that they come up to help motivate them and help move them forward. So I just want to use this podcast for those reasons to share some of those things I learned, but I also want to use time to time where I'll be interviewing a variety of people and hear their stories, learn a little bit more about them and their backgrounds and lessons they may have learned from their own version of a dugout and take that away for myself and for the audience to learn and grow from.
So, I'm super excited about this. I'm looking to tell stories that I think will be fun to listen to and impactful, but also get an opportunity for me and the audience to hear leaders from other industries and talk about some of the things they've learned.
AB: All right. So, Dave, I can't wait to hear the stories about your dad and learn from all of your guests. When can we expect the first episode and where can listeners find it?
DG: Well, it's available on all the channels as our podcast. So Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, or wherever else you go to find your podcast platform. So take a listen. I think you'll find it at least interesting, and my hope is that you'll find it interesting and useful enough that you'll want to come back and listen again.
AB: I can't wait.
DG: Me too. So thank you for your time today, and thank you, audience. Welcome to my dugout. I'm excited to share the dugout, the bullpen, the clubhouse, the field. I got some great stories lined up, so looking forward to talking to people.
AB: All right, we can't wait.
