Alyssa Burley: Hi! This is Alyssa Burley with Rancho Mesa’s Media Communications and Client Services Department. Thank you for listening to today’s top Rancho Mesa news brought to you by our safety and risk management network, StudioOne™. Welcome back, everyone. My guest is Megan Lockhart, Media Communications and Client Services Coordinator with Rancho Mesa. Today, we’re going to talk about push notifications in the SafetyOne™ mobile app. Megan, welcome to the show.
Megan Lockhart: Happy to be here, Alyssa.
AB: We’re so excited about the launch of Rancho Mesa’s SafetyOne™ app. Our team, as you know Megan, is extremely busy getting clients into the new platform and trained. So, I wanted to take a few minutes to highlight one of the unique features that is built-in to the app that we’re all so used to seeing on our smart phones and tablets, but this is new to Rancho Mesa’s client services offerings, and this is our push notifications or company news feature. Megan, for listeners who aren’t too familiar with the inner workings of mobile apps, will you explain push notifications and how they work?
ML: Of course, push notifications are those alert messages that pop up on your mobile device’s lock screen letting you know you have a text message or someone you follow on social media has published a post. These notifications are sent to your device by a mobile application that is installed on the device. So, Rancho Mesa’s SafetyOne™ App also utilizes push notifications to alert mobile app users. Push notifications are automatically sent to users who have been assigned an issue to fix on a jobsite, or the organization’s SafetyOne™ administer can send news alerts to all their mobile users or a select group of users.
AB: The push notifications alerting users can really speed up the process of fixing an issue that is found in the workplace. So, if the safety manager finds an issue, they can document it in the app and assign it to an employee right from their mobile device. Then, that employee will get a message on their mobile device that they need to fix the issue. Once they fix the issue and document it in the SafetyOne™ app, the safety manager, or whomever assigned the issue, will receive a push notification alerting them the issue has been fixed. It’s really so simple. They don’t have to send emails or exchange voicemails back and forth. The app automatically notifies the appropriate people when it’s needed. So Megan, when might an organization’s administrator want to send out messages using the mobile app?
ML: In the Company News screen on the administrator’s website, organizations can send push notifications whenever they want. The message could be a weather alert. For example, if you know that you have a crew working on a construction job tomorrow and the weather is supposed to be over 80 degrees, you may want to send a push notification to all mobile app users on that job reminding them of the signs for heat illness. Or, if there is an organization-wide announcement like a policy change, the administrator can send out the notification to all the mobile app users.
AB: I think this feature is going to be really important for organizations to quickly send out messages to their mobile app users. This would be particularly important in emergencies.
ML: Yeah, absolutely. Hopefully our clients never have to deal with natural disasters, but this capability is there if they need it. You know, Southern California has a history of wild fires, earthquakes, and some recent flooding, so being able to send out mass communications to employees can be helpful.
AB: Megan, if listeners are interested in learning more about the SafetyOne™ App or would like to turn it on for their organization, who should they contact?
ML: Yeah, listeners can visit ranchomesa.com/safetyone-app to learn more. And, we’ll put a link in the episode notes to that webpage. On our website, you can watch a short video about the SafetyOne™ App and also join our waitlist for getting an app account. If you’re a client, your client services coordinator will be reaching out to you within the next few months to get your account up and running.
AB: That sounds great. And I’m sure many listeners will be interested in learning more. So, make sure to subscribe to our StudioOne™ podcast to get all the episodes about the new SafetyOne™ App. Megan, thanks for joining me in StudioOne™.
