Alyssa Burley: Hi, this is Alyssa Burley with Rancho Mesa's Media Communications and Client Services Department. Thank you for listening to today's top Rancho Mesa news brought to you by our Safety and Risk Management Network, StudioOne. Welcome back everyone. As we progress through the year, there are certain months dedicated to safety hazards that are important to our clients and their employees. We've talked about National Ladder Safety Month in March, Wildfire Prevention Month back in October, and many others. So now we're in the month of April, which is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. So today my guest is Megan Lockhart, Client Communications Coordinator with Rancho Mesa, and we'll be talking about how we can use this month as a great reminder to freshen up on driver safety training for your fleet and make sure your employees aren't distracted while they're on the road. Megan, welcome to the show.

Megan Lockhart: Hi Alyssa, happy to be here.

AB: So as I mentioned, this month is dedicated to spreading awareness for distracted driving. Can you tell us why this issue is so important that we now have an entire month dedicated to its awareness?

ML: Yeah, it's really important. Most if not all of our clients have employees who drive on behalf of their company using company vehicles. And the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that more than 3 ,500 people in the United States were killed due to distracted driving in 2021. Distraction can come in many forms, but I think we'd all agree that the most common form of distraction is our phones, using it, whether we're texting, scrolling through any types of apps, or just talking on the phone as well.

AB: Agreed and when it comes to fleet vehicles it's important to make sure your employees are driving safely and without distraction. This not only keeps the employees safe while on the job but it also keeps the risk of an auto claim low. So Megan in honor of this month how can clients prevent distracted driving for themselves and their employees?

ML: Yeah a primary way to prevent accidents on the road especially for employees is through keeping upward driver training and the safety SafetyOne platform offers a library of online driver training topics to ensure your drivers are safe on the road, most importantly, it has a distracted driving course. We're also hosting an in -person fleet safety workshop on Friday, May 17th at the Mission Value Library. If listeners are interested, they can register for that.

AB: Great, and we'll include a link to register for the workshop in our episode notes, and you can also register on the Rancho Mesa website. Now if clients have questions about driver training resources they can reach out to their client technology coordinator and we'll be happy to get the information that they need. Well Megan thank you for letting us know about Distracted Driving Awareness Month and for joining me in StudioOne.

ML: Of course thank you so much.

AB: This is Alyssa Burley with Rancho Mesa. Thanks for tuning in to our latest episode produced by StudioOne. For more information, visit us at RanchoMesa.com and subscribe to our weekly newsletter.
